From Cusco we went to Arequipa, but of course not directly. We had planned a few stops and a few turned out that way. First, we went to Chinchero and visited the women from the Collectivo Comunidad de Mujeres Andinas. We wanted to do some shopping in peace. As I said, it's more fun in peace and quiet, and we chatted along the way, and at the end we took a photo together with Luis in the middle. From there we went south in the Urubamba Valley, with a short break in Pisac, on to the Rainbow Mountains, also called the 7 Colour Mountains. Look at the photos, they are amazing. Also because we had to climb 5,000 metres. We spent the night at the foot of the mountains at 4,700 and the next morning we went up. The first part we were driven on motorbikes and the last part we had to walk, or better wheeze and sneak. Besides, as a passenger on a motorbike I am just very bad, but the guys had it under control.
The view of these mountains is awesome, simply impressive, what nature has developed for phenomena. After 2 hours we had enough and went downhill again towards Canyon del Colca. One of the deepest canyons on earth and especially exciting, a paradise for the condors, which we can observe very closely. These huge birds enjoy the thermals and let themselves be carried in the air in front of the spectators. We didn't quite make it and had to make a stop beforehand. Because it was already so late, we went to the hotel. The next day we went to the condors and another highlight was the geysers at the foot of the volcano YXZ. My first geysers, it was totally exciting for me. The water comes out of the earth at 100 degrees C and immediately warms the stream. On the way we did another good deed and gave a farmer's wife and her dog a lift. Bettina crawled in the back for so long.
And then off to Arequipa, but on the way Luis spoke up again. The second gear didn't work anymore, no propulsion, nothing. There was no noise, nothing, but the gearbox is broken again. Luckily we can drive from 1st to 3rd gear on a flat stretch. When we go uphill, we have to shift completely into the gearbox, then we have 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th, we can go up everywhere, but we can only drive a maximum of 45km/h. But everyone behind us has to live with that. But everyone behind us has to live with that, the important thing is that we can drive. And so we arrived in Arequipa in the evening. We found a guarded car park and moved into the Selina Hostel. For us city kids, with all our sightseeing, it just makes more sense to take a hostel in the city than an outside campsite with a long way into town. And the next day, the sightseeing programme started...
